I started about this one five years ago during the pandemic, when I was trying to find something that really I like it to do. I like painting. And you know what I like? Why I like painting? I like transforming houses, transforming dream. You know, think about this, if a whole house 30 years old, or 50 years old, and you make the house like a brand-new house with a new like a new siding. So that’s really the goal when we started Bethel Stone. So we started Bethel Stone with this idea, the idea of creating values on the people’s home. We understand that people’s home is the best asset, is the most valuable asset. So, if is the most valuable asset that they have in this lifetime, we have to treat with care. We need to treat with the value that they deserve. So that’s really why we started Bethel Stone, and that’s really why we enjoy painting, because we enjoy transforming people’s life.
So, I tend to work all over between southern Maine, central Maine, most, most of the coastal area of Maine. I work, I have several teams with me, so I do a lot of exterior, exterior painting, interior painting.
I do commercial painting; I do all this type of painting. I have a small customers like a lady that just wants to paint a deck, and I have big customers for like 60-unit buildings, so we, we do all types of job. No job is too small for us. No job is too big for us.
For the light carpentry, what we do is pretty much like see if the siding is rotten is damaged, we go and we fix, there is a trim that needs to be replaced, and we go and fix if there is a deck needs to be fixed, we go and fix. This is mostly the light carpentry that we do. We don’t do a rough carpentry. We don’t do any framing, at all, so that’s, that’s basically what the type of carpentry we do.
I think white for interior is always the the most common color for interior. I think white, I see people going with beige as well, but white is the most common color for the interior of your house. So I see some blues, light blue, but the white is the most common one for exterior. I see right now there’s a tendency of people going more with what I call dark colors so dark blue, dark green, so there’s a tendency for people going, to like dark silver too. So, there is a tendency for people going this way, right now.
For the exterior part, what we do first, we assess the the house. We assess if the siding is good, if we have to remove a siding, we assess the type of trim. We assess if what type of paint was used prior. If it was a lead paint, we have a set of protocols to use as we use some safety measures for our painters also. If the house is not a a lead house, what we do is we organize, we clean the house, we have to scrape. The whole house, we before we put all the, the plastic on the ground so that we don’t have a paint chip in in the ground, we put plastic on the ground and then we start scraping, the, the house, we cover the windows with plastic so that we don’t have overspray in in in the windows we. The gaps so that we don’t have gaps that water can go through the house and can damage the interior of the house. So basically, that’s the process and then what we do is we come, and we start spraying. Normally we have two painters that start spraying from one side to the other side, so we spray the whole house and do. And then we do a back roll. As we paint, we do a back roll so that the, finished paint is clean and its really nice finish. We clean all the paint sheets so that we have your house safe for your kids, your loved ones, your dogs, and your pets and all the people that visit your house. So this is basically the process, how we do it.
What I’m gonna do, I’m gonna do two steps. I’m gonna do, for the interior project, interior painting, and I do the exterior painting.
So for the interior painting is the following. We go to a, a house, we remove all the switches, all the light switches and everything that needs to be removed from the, from, from the wall. We do all the prep work first. We put all the plastics, all the papers, and, so that we can, we don’t put, dust, we cover all the furniture. We have, if we have to remove all the furniture to another room, we remove the furniture to another room. We start putting the compound in the walls, start after everything is covered, we start sanding the walls, then we apply a primer, we apply a primer. We send again so that we can have a smooth finish, and then we go, we apply the first coat of paint.
After we apply the first coat of paint, we go, and we apply everything is done correctly. We do, we go and we apply the second coat of paint and then we come by the end to do the touch up, the trims and the touch up and everything.
So, this is basically the whole flow of the interior painting process, it can vary depending of the house, depending of the problem we face in the house. This house that we have to clean all the, all the walls, this house that we have to, organize everything inside before we start painting. So, this is really specific, things that we have to do, prior the painting, but in painting, as I said is this, prep is key.
If you have a painter, this paint is not like prepping first before start painting, it’s a bad painter, but you can call Bethel Stone because at Bethel Stone, we, do the first thing first.
We prep first and then we stop painting. So not the, painting first and then stop prepping. No, no, no, it’s first we prep the area and then we start painting.
So, we normally recommend like 5 years for exterior painting 5 years I think is for Maine weather, southern Maine, Northern New England Maine weathers. I think 5 years is the time that they need to go.
Paint the door, the, houses, actually, Benjamin Moore and Sherwin William. They give a warranty of 7 years, but it’s always good to paint like, 5 years, every 5 years to paint your, your house.
The other thing that I always say to my customers is also to make sure that you do all the small projects like if a siding is damaged fix right away so that you don’t have like a big expense in 5 years so you fix right away so that you don’t have these problems coming all at once.
So, I see a lot of mistakes, especially, you know, painting is not just throwing, paint in the walls. Paint is the tell, you know, and, if you don’t paint it well, it will come up for the next person to paint well, to make it well you will have to spend a lot of money, so the issue here is people paint molding, I see a lot of customers, they paint all the molding of the house, they paint the trim of the house, so the same color as the wall, so it’s a big, big mess. So don’t do that by yourself, contact the professional, contact the Bethel Stone Painting, and we are here for you. That’s for sure.
For to paint a bricks and to paint woods is there’s a different type of paint that we use so we use the appropriate paint for bricks or for stones, and we use the appropriate paint for wood. So, there is really not much no difficulty to paint the bricks. We have been doing everything so.
So, I normally we offer 6-month warranty for people’s house. So, if we painted your house and you call us in 6 months we come and then we, we, we’re gonna, we’re gonna fix it, but for sure if something in the year period happens yes we come also and we fix the issue, at no charge from us. And so, what we do here is we normally give like 6 months to a year warranty so that people can be assured that we are here for them. We’re not just one time customer we are a partner for their house, so that’s how we do it.
So I work with all type of brands. I work Sherwin Williams, and I work with, Benjamin Moore. That’s just in Maine and Southern Maine. This is the most, common colors that we have been using, but, you know, this, I, we have used California paint, but that’s, that’s basically mostly the, the type of paint we, we have been using, yes.
